President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that the people of the Maldives are exemplary in cooperating with the government.

Speaking at the Kangathikoalhi Awards 2023 ceremony held at the Dharubaaruge tonight, the President said that the Maldives gained independence from the British because the then Parliament, the Rural Committee,s and the people came out together for the policies wanted by the then President Ibrahim Nasir. The main airport of the Maldivians, which was handed over to the Indian company GMR, was acquired in the same manner, he said.

"The people of the Maldives are exemplary in cooperating with the government. That is how the people of the Maldives developed and progressed," he said.

The President said that the efforts of the people together and cooperating with the then government enabled them to receive foreign currency and establish education and medical services.

The President further noted that during the Presidential campaign, he had pledged to fulfill all the promises. The President said that he is fulfilling those promises and is working to fulfill more promises.

"With the blessings of Allah, all the promises are being fulfilled on time," he said.

He said many people have told him about the difficulties they face in housing.

"The suffering of sleeping and eating with three or four children in small cells. The uncomfortable life. The constant hurtful feelings. The tears in the eyes of the mothers, the pain in their voices. They echo in my mind all the time. It has a profound effect on me," he said.

That is why the development of Fushidhiggaru Lagoon has been started and housing projects will be carried out in different parts of the country in the coming days, he said. His goal is to bring about a time when not a single citizen will have to cry because of housing shortages.
