Maldives Corrections Service (MCS) has revealed that former President Abdulla Yameen who is serving an 11 year jail term after being found guilty of money laundering has requested for additional ease of restrictions,
A corrections official told One Online today that Yameen's side had requested further relief but no further relief could be given at this time. That is because there are legal conflicts.
The corrections department did not disclose any details of the decision.
While corrections have denied additional relief, it is notable that the relationship between President Mohammed Muizzu and Yameen has deteriorated since President Muizzu came to power. Yameen has left the PPM/PNC on the fourth day of this government and started trying to form a new political party.
The sentence has now been appealed in the High Court. The case is also in the final stages of the court
