Two more people have tested positive for filariasis in Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi.
The Ministry of Health announced on Friday that 17 people tested positive for filariasis during the screening for various diseases during the International Aids Day celebrations.
The two more people tested positive for the virus after tests were conducted on other foreigners in the island, Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH) media officer Mohammed Moosa told One Online today. They tested positive this morning, he said.
Mohammed said only foreigners in the island are being tested at the moment and after that, the general public will also be tested for filariasis. The people infected are being provided with the necessary medicines and treatment and they are not showing any symptoms of the disease, he said.
Filariasis is an eradicated disease in the Maldives. According to the HPA, the disease has been confirmed in Kulhudhuffushi.
