Candidates running for the role of Male' City Mayor have been assigned candidate numbers.

During a special ceremony held at the EC on Saturday, candidate numbers were also assigned to the candidates contesting the three vacant seats in the City Council.

The numbers were assigned as follows:

1- Shuaib Ali, independent

2- Hussain Waheed, independent

3- Aishath Azima Shakoor, People’s National Congress (PNC)

4- Adam Azim, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)

5- Saif Fathih, the Democrats

The Election Commission has decided to hold the by-elections for the mayor and the three vacant council seats on January 13th.

The seat of the Mayor of the City became vacant after former Mayor was elected President. The three seats in the city council became vacant after the previous members resigned following their appointment to various government positions.
