STELCO has appointed its Deputy Managing Director (DMD) Mohamed Latheef as its new Chairman.

Latheef, who started his service as an English secretary at The Maldives Electricity Board during its tenure, retired from service on November 27 at the age of 65. He retired after 34 years of uninterrupted service at STELCO.

Ibrahim Mohamed Didi, a former Brigadier General and veteran of the armed forces, was the former chairman of STELCO.

According to the PCB, Didi has been removed from the post with effect from that day as he had offered to step down as the chairman of the company on December 4.
