Ali Abdul Latheef has been elected as a member to represent lawyers at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
In a press release issued last evening, the Bar Council said that the election to elect a lawyer to represent the lawyers in the JSC was held on Thursday night through 'Fahi Vote'.
According to the Bar Council, only one candidate was in the fray.
"And out of the 659 lawyers registered to vote, 443 have cast their votes in this election and by a majority of votes, Ali Abdul Latheef has been elected to the Judicial Service Commission," the Bar Council said.
According to the Bar Council, the election was held as the JSC Act states that if a person's post falls vacant, a person should be re-appointed to the post within 30 days of the vacancy.
Prior to this, the lawyers were represented in the JSC by Abdul Maniu Hussain, who resigned from the JSC on November 12 to take over as a high court judge. Maniu was appointed as a judge of the high court on November 16.
