The Parliament's Budget Review Committee has approved a budget of MVR 49.8 billion for the next fiscal year.
The government presented a budget of MVR 49.5 billion to the parliament. The budget allocated MVR 8.6 billion for PSIP projects.
Parliament convened a meeting of the budget review committee this evening. At the meeting, the committee approved sending a budget of MVR 49.8 billion to parliament. The committee's amendments to the budget sent by the government have resulted in an increase of MVR 3,06,109,915. Therefore, the budget has increased to MVR 49.8 billion.
Among the other changes made by the committee to the budget are President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's election promise includes changes to the Fushidhiggaru falhu reclamation project. The government has proposed a budget of MVR 400 million for the project. The project has been proposed as a PSIP project.
Yaugoob's proposal to remove fushidhiggaru falls project from PSIP projects was seconded by Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef. In the vote that followed, members of the Budget Committee unanimously approved Yaugoob's proposals.
The removal of Fushidhiggaru falhu from the PSIP budget increased the total PSIP budget by MVR 248 million. Therefore, the budget for PSIP projects is now MVR 8.8 billion.
The Budget Committee has allocated MVR 10 million in the attorney general's office's budget to search for the missing sea area from the country's Special Economic Zone (EEZ).
