Former MDP Chairman Ali Waheed, has re-joined the party.

He said in a post on X today that he was back home after seven years and seven days.

“I will serve the MDP, the entire country and the people of the Maldives with courage and diligence,” said Ali Waheed, who was also the first tourism minister of the previous government.

Ali was sacked as the Tourism Minister after he was accused of sexual assault and rape. He was also charged in the case. However, he returned to the Maldives in July this year after the charges were withdrawn.

Ali Waheed last worked in campaigning for JP leader Gasim Ibrahim to win the presidential election.

Ali, who started his political career in the DRP, first joined MDP in 2011. He was then the Member of Parliament for Thoddoo Constituency.

After serving as the MDP Chairman, he left the party after being exiled during the rule of former President Abdulla Yameen. Since then, in the run-up to the 2018 presidential election, Ali Waheed joined JP.
