Fertility treatment including IVF is now available under national health scheme, Aasandha.

The President held a press conference after the cabinet meeting today at the President's Office. The Cabinet today approved the provision of fertility treatment including IVF from Aasandha, the President said.

The President said that the Aasandha rules will be amended to include that. A rule will be formulated to provide the services and IVF and IUI services will be announced in the future, he said.

The President also said that private hospitals will also be able to provide these services. They will also be able to identify the hospitals that will be eligible for the service under the scheme.

In addition, a special center for fertility care will be established and a special fund will be allocated from the state budget, he said. A fertility care fund of MVR 30 million will be allocated next year, he said.
