President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has attended the Opening Ceremony of the World Leaders Summit as part of the 28th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).
The Summit was hosted by the Presidency of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
President Dr. Muizzu was accompanied at the opening ceremony by the Minister of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy, Thoriq Ibrahim and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moosa Zameer.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to deliver the National Statement at the World Leaders Summit later today, marking his first major address on a global platform since assuming office two weeks ago.
COP28 holds significance for the Maldives as it provides an opportunity to discuss the country's ambitions for global sustainable development and adaptation for climate change mitigation.
COP28 is being held at Dubai, UAE from November 30–December 12, 2023. The conference is expected to convene over 70,000 participants, including heads of state, government officials, international industry leaders, private sector representatives, academics, experts, youth, and non-state actors.
