President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel to depart to Sri Lanka tonight as the Special Envoy of the President.

The purpose of the visit is to inquire on the condition of Maldivians who may have been affected following the explosions that occurred across Sri Lanka this morning, and to convey solidarity to the Sri Lankan government at this time of national distress.

The President’s Office said that State Minister Khaleel is scheduled to meet with the senior officials of the Sri Lankan government and to inquire on the condition of Maldivians and find out ways of assistance.

While the number of casualties and injured as a result of these horrific acts continue to rise, The President also sent a message of condolence and conveyed firm solidarity with all those affected following the explosions in Sri Lanka.
