President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that the government is working to find a solution to the limit on debit and credit cards issued by Bank of Maldives (BML).
The President said this while meeting with Maldivians living in Turkey yesterday to discuss their concerns.
During the meeting, Maldivians living in Turkey shared with the President the challenges they face in the country. They shared the challenges faced by the absence of a Maldivian embassy in Turkey and the current standards for withdrawals from Bank of Maldives accounts abroad.
During the meeting, the President discussed the needs and challenges faced by the Maldivians living in Turkey. The President said he would try to provide all the facilities available to the people living in the country.
The President said he would discuss the necessary steps to establish a Maldivian embassy in Turkey and that Turkey would start offering 30 scholarships to Maldivians from next year. The President said that BML is working to find a solution to the current card limit.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the maximum monthly debit card withdrawal limit has been reduced to $250. The maximum monthly withdrawal from a credit card has been reduced to $750. During his presidential campaign, Muizzu said he would work to raise the $750 limit on credit cards to make it easier for Maldivians living abroad.
