An emergency motion has been moved in the Parliament calling on the government of President Dr Mohammed Muizzu to hand over the land and flats to the beneficiaries as soon as possible.
The emergency motion was moved by MDP MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem.
Moving the emergency motion, Meekail said that the President has repeatedly said that he would not take away the land and flats given by the previous government.
“However, after taking over the presidency, Housing Minister Dr Ali Haider Ahmed in his first press conference questioned the validity of the registration of some plots allotted by the previous government under the Binveriyaa Scheme and threatened that the location of the plots may have to be shifted elsewhere,” he said.
Meekail said the previous government had not included any amount in the proposed state budget for 2024 to develop the Hulhumale, Guulhiifalhu and Giravaru Falhu and provide basic services to the people. Instead, MVR 400 million has been allocated for the dredging of the Fushidhiggaru Falhu, he said.
He also called on the government to explain the real policy of the government in this regard and hand over the properties to the beneficiaries as soon as possible.
The emergency bill was passed by 29 votes out of 31 present.
