The work of the newly created Local Government and Public Works Ministry will not conflict with the work of the Local Government Authority (LGA), the Minister said.
Minister Adam Shareef told PSM's "Raajje Miadhu" program yesterday that the main task of the Local Government Ministry will be to formulate policies and work with councils in the decentralization of islands and councils in the Maldives.
"There will be no change in the role of the LGA. The LGA will play its role properly. There will be no conflicts," he said.
The minister said the role of the LGA is to monitor and maintain the councils and provide necessary assistance to the councils. The Local Government Ministry will work with the LGA, he said.
The minister said that since the LGA is accountable to the Parliament, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has decided to appoint the Minister as the Chairman of the LGA Board.
The minister added that the aim of the Local Government Ministry is to provide financial sufficiency to the councils.
