Economic Minister Ahmed Saeed has said that an integrated development plan for Ihavandhoo will be announced soon.
In a post on X today, Saeed said that works on the Male Commercial Port, Gaddhoo Commercial Port and the integrated development project of Ihavandhoo will continue. He noted that these were part of the 14 week plans of President Dr. Muizzu.
However, Saeed did not give any further details.
The Ihaven project was announced in 2014 by then President Abdulla Yameen. Announced at an event in Singapore, the project will develop a port, airport, banking services, shopping malls, tourist resorts, manufacturing, packaging, processing and warehousing of goods, as well as an international cruise facility, an airport and real estate components.
In 2016, the master plan for Ihaven was awarded to Singapore's Surbana Jurong. Boston Consultancy Group (BCG) was awarded the feasibility study. However, some of the project has been stalled.
The government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has also carried out some aspects of the Ihaven project. STO signed an agreement with Qatar's Arbacon Trading and Contracting, one of the largest trading companies in the Middle East, to set up a bunkering facility as part of the port development in Ihavandhoo last August.
In addition, the transshipment port in Gaddhoo was also announced during the Yameen government. People living in Gaddhoo were also relocated to Funadhoo in the province. However, the practical work has not started.
