The election for the mayor of Male City will be held on January 13.

Election Commission Vice-President Ismail Habib told One Online today that the opportunity to nominate candidates for the mayoral election is open from today until the 13th of next month.

The post of Mayor of the city has become vacant after the Mayor resigned on the 17th of this month after winning the presidential election.

In addition to the mayor's post, three other posts remain vacant. They are Maafannu South Councilor Abdullah Nasir, Henveiru South Councilor Fathimath Shamna Ali Salim and Central Henveiru Councilor Adam Rameez.

Therefore, the by-election elections for the seats and 18 other island council members and women's development committees will be held together, he said.

Former Attorney General Azima Shukoor, former Youth Minister Ahmed Mahlood and former Police Commissioner Hussain Waheed are among those who have expressed interest in the post.

In addition, current city councilor Mohammed Saif Fatih has also expressed interest and is campaigning.
