The mastermind behind the November 3 terror attack, Abdullah Luthufee has completed his sentence today.

Luthufee was arrested and sentenced to death in connection with the November 3, 1988 coup attempt by the People's Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE). However, President Maumoon later commuted his sentence to life imprisonment (25) years.

While the life sentence was completed last April, he completed the sentence on him for having fled the country after being sentenced.

Luthufee was sent abroad for medical treatment on January 16, 2010. Shortly after he fled custody, and did not return to the Maldives. The then Department of Penitentiary and Rehabilitation Service filed a complaint with the police on March 26, 2012 seeking his extradition.

Luthufee was brought to the country on 9 July 2019. He was sentenced to seven months in prison. He will be released today after serving his sentence, the corrections confirmed to One Online.

However, they did not say when he would be released. The corrections said they would not disclose the information because of the possibility of a crowd.
