Mohamed Maleeh Jamah has announced that former President Abdulla Yameen's newly formed party People's National Front (PNF) will contest next year's parliamentary elections and the mayoral seat of the city.
Maleeh, who is leading the formation of his new party on behalf of President Yameen, told reporters outside the Election Commission after seeking permission to form the party today.
“Our party will also contest for the mayor of Male City. Hopefully we will contest the parliamentary elections and we will win the elections,” he said.
When asked how many seats he would contest in the parliamentary elections, Maleeh said he would decide after forming the party. He said the recruitment process is going at a record speed and the forms will be submitted with a large number of members.
The Election Commission has assured the party of its full cooperation in the formation of the party. He said President Yameen wanted to form the party with eight founders including himself, but according to the election rules, only one person is allowed to do so.
