The owner of the house where the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) is located has asked the party to vacate its office.
The party office is functioning on the H. Hurafa ground floor and the first floor of the house.
In a letter sent to PPM yesterday, the owner of the building stated that the ground floor and the first floor of the house were allotted to run the office on the request of former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who has now left the party.
However, since the PPM party office is still functioning there, both parties have mutually agreed to terminate the contract.
The owner of the house has directed the PPM to vacate the premises and hand it over by yesterday afternoon.
However, no further information was available as senior party leaders did not pick up their phones.
The order to vacate the party office comes a day after party leader Yameen quit the party on Thursday and began the process of forming another party.
"President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu did not even answer president Yameen's phone, and at the same time, the PPM/PNC leadership has distanced itself from President Yameen. President Yameen was not consulted at all, and they believe that they do not want to run the party under the leadership of President Yameen. In light of all this, President Yameen has decided to leave the party this evening to continue his political work and conduct the parliamentary elections." Mohamed Jameel Ahmed said on Thursday.
