President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Attorney General Ahmed Usham and Uz Mohamed Sameer to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
The ceremony was held at the President's Office this afternoon.
The President appointed Uz Usham to the position per Article 158 (i) of the Constitution of Maldives, which outlines the composition of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), and Section 3 (9) of the Judicial Service Commission Act (Act 10/2008), which stipulates that the Attorney General holds membership of the JSC.
Prior to his appointment, Uz Usham took his oath in the presence of the President, with Supreme Court Judge Uza Aisha Shujoon Mohamed administering the oath. The President formally presented the appointment letter to Uz Usham during the ceremony.
Uz Usham formerly represented the Villimale' constituency as a member of the Parliament. He also previously held the position of Deputy Attorney General.
The President also apponted Uz Sameer to the JSC today.
This appointment designates Uz Mohamed Sameer as a member appointed to the JSC by the President, in accordance with Article 158 (h) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives and Article 3 (8) of the Judicial Service Commission Act.
At a special ceremony held at the President’s Office, President Dr Muizzu presented Uz Mohamed Sameer with his Letter of Appointment. Uz Mohamed Sameer took his oath of office in the presence of the President, administered by Supreme Court Justice Uz Aisha Shujoon Mohamed.
Uz Mohamed Sameer previously served as a Public Prosecutor at the Prosecutor General's Office, a Senior Associate at Nasheed & Co, and as the Managing Partner at Sameer & Shamam LLP.
