A police officer who was missing from Addu City has been found dead in the sea.

The deceased has been identified as a 22-year-old special constabulary male police officer on duty at the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement in Addu.

The police received a report around 0040hrs that he did not return home after going for Isha prayers earlier last night.

Police found him in the Hithadhoo swimming track area at 0140hrs and rushed him to Addu Equatorial Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The police are investigating the matter.
