The Ministry of Education has decided to make changes to the academic calendar to accommodate the holidays in December and the new academic year to start in January.

In an interview with "One", the Education Minister, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu confirmed this. Minister Shafeeu said he is working to bring this change from 2025 and 2026 at the latest.

The minister said the holidays given to children and teachers after a very busy education are a time to relax their minds, travel and refresh themselves. School holidays all over the world are determined by the best weather for travel to the country.

The minister said the country is currently giving holidays during the worst weather.

The second thing the minister mentioned was the budget. The coincidence of the start of the new academic year and the implementation of the new budget is essential for the education sector.

Minister Shafeeu added that in many countries with good education systems, it is important to align the budget with the start of the academic year.

The minister said he did not believe that the holidays and the academic year had been changed without proper research. He said he does not believe that any president would make such a change knowing the results of such studies.

Shafeeu said he met with 19 principals in the Male area today and shared the change with them. All of them welcome the change, he said. However, this will require further work and that is why it is taking time.
