A petition has been submitted to the parliament with 1,000 signatures to stop Israelis from coming to the Maldives.

The petition was filed by an organisation called the Right Movement, which submitted 1,000 signatures of the large number of signatories to the petition.

Right Movement said that 10,000 signatures have been received so far in Male' City alone and signing activities are underway across the country. The process of signing the petition will continue till December 15.

The Right Movement said it was submitting the petition seeking a ban on Israelis from entering the country to show their opposition to Israel's inhuman treatment of and its atrocities against Palestinians.

While the Right Movement submitted the petition, a resolution moved by MP Saud Hussein against Israel condemning the "inhuman atrocities" meted out to the Palestinian people after calling for an end to Israel's occupation of Palestinian lands was debated in parliament last week by a group of members of parliament calling for a boycott of Israel.

More than 13,000 people, mostly children and women, have been killed in Israeli strikes in Gaza.
