Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has said that the position of Chief Magistrate of Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate Court Ali Adam has been downgraded.

In a statement issued today, the JSC said that it was proven that Magistrate Ali Adam has been negligent in investigating the case due to lack of clarity and proper research in the case filed at The Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate's Court.

In its 76th meeting held last night, it was decided that Ali Adam's position under the JSC Act was to be downgraded as he had violated two articles of the Maldives Constitution, the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act, the Judges Act and the Judges' Code of Conduct.

According to JSC, Ali Adam has been transferred to the post of Magistrate of Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate Court with effect from today.

In the past, parliament has twice recommended the removal of Ali Adam over a disciplinary case. This time it was investigated that a divorce application was contacted, messaged and made various statements outside the trial at kulhudhuffushi magistrate's court.
