Home Minister Ali Ihsan has stated that President Dr. Muizzu has given very clear-cut directions for Home Ministry.
Minister Ihsan made the comments during a meeting with the press. He noted that President Dr. Muizzu has highlighted 3 major points for the Ministry.
“The first task is to address the drug problems in the country in accordance with the law. Secondly, to prevent gang crimes in the society and finally, to ensure that no one enters the country illegally, and that those who are working in the country adhere to the rules and regulations,” Minister Ihsan said.
Minister Ihsan also shared his vision for a peaceful society in Maldives. He added that if citizens are not able to walk freely on streets as they prefer, without being harassed or ridiculed, it is not a safe society.
“I do not believe citizens have complete freedom if they cannot walk down the street as they wish,” Minister Ihsan said.
He said that in order to make Maldivian society safe for its citizens, the Constitution and relevant laws need to be revised. He added that the Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Aslam is ready to cooperate with the Government on this, and therefore the latter is hopeful.
Minister Ihsan said that during this tenure, the Government will ensure a safe and secure society for the citizens.
