Some flights were diverted from Velana International Airport Saturday evening, following issues on the runway.
Reports claim that the issue which diverted flights was a faulty runway, where part of it had come undone.
Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL) had reported to some medias that the issue happened on Saturday evening, during a downpour. The company confirmed that a part of the runway had come undone, however noted that it was far from the area of the runway that is used. However, for the inspection of damages, time was spent more than expected.
MACL highlighted that a Sri Lankan Airlines flight was diverted along with a Maldivian flight, which had returned to Kaddhoo to refuel.
Even though the issue occurred during the evening, the airport is now back to it’s regular operations.
