The Government of Maldives has formally requested the Government of India to withdraw its military personnel from the Maldives.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu formally made the request when he met the Minister of Earth Sciences of India, Kiren Rijiju, at the President’s Office earlier today.

The first 100 days of President Muizzu's administration also includes the expulsion of foreign troops from the Maldives. He has scheduled to start work on the first day of his administration.

The DG of the transitional phase and now President Muizzu's special advisor Abdul Raheem Abdullah said the number of Indian troops in the Maldives was unclear.
