Islamic Affairs Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated that he will soon open the opportunity for imams who have obtained a Master's Degree in Islamic studies to pursue PhDs abroad.

The President, who was sworn in yesterday, appointed Dr. Mohammed Shaheem as the Islamic Minister in his cabinet during a ceremony held last night at the President's Office.

In a post by Dr. Shaheem on X (Formerly Twitter) today, he said that he would soon announce a project to provide opportunities for imams of mosques in the Maldives to pursue PhDs at a foreign university.

Dr. Shaheem has close ties to Islamic and Arab countries. Shaheem was most recently been the President of the Islamic Organization for Cultural and Civilization (IOCC).

Shaheem resigned from the post to join President Muizzu’s cabinet.
