President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has delivered his inaugural address.
In his speech, President Dr. Muizzu stated that today is a day of hope as the Maldives embarks on a new journey.
He stated that the state's security, power and prestige is built on structural and human development and his government will pursue policies that are driven by these two key fundamentals.
President Dr. Muizzu further stated that he will not allow the government to interfere with the judiciary. He added that this does not mean that the government will turn a blind eye to criminal offenses either.
In his speech, President Dr. Muizzu addressed the state's debt, adding that he is hopeful and confident his government can overcome the economic challenges. He said the government will complete the Velana International Airport project soon and expand and facilitate new innovations in the tourism industry.
President Dr. Muizzu also highlighted the housing issue, reiterating his pledge to bring a solution to the housing crisis in Maldives. Furthermore, President Dr. Muizzu added that his government will establish seven urban centres throughout the nation.
He also spoke on policies for fisheries and agriculture, noting the role played by fishermen and farmers and stated that the government will introduce advanced technologies to the sector.
President Dr. Muizzu also stressed the importance of Islamic education and values, stating that the government will provide support to intellectuals to attain a well-versed society. He requested the intellectuals to conduct more research and publish them.
President Dr. Muizzu stated that he will draw red lines when it comes to the security of Maldives, and that all countries have to respect it as Maldives respects theirs. He said he will not allow the security of Maldives to be taken away.
Concluding his speech, President Dr. Muizzu reiterated that his will be a transparent government. A government of kindness and compassion. He appealed to the public to stay united as one under our national flag which represents rules and regulations of society.
