Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has arrived in the Maldives to attend the oath ceremony of President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Vice President-elect Hussain Mohamed Latheef.
Ranil arrived in the Maldives on Thursday and was received by Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and Moosa Zameer, who will be appointed as Foreign Minister in the Dr. Muizzu government.
Ranil is the only head of a foreign country attending the oath ceremony, with vice-presidents, ministers and senior government officials coming from other countries.
During his visit to the Maldives, Ranil called on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and thanked the Maldives for its assistance in boosting Sri Lanka's economy.
Dr. Muizzu and Hussain's swearing-in ceremony will take place at1645hrs on Friday at The Republic Square. Parliament has said that representatives or heads appointed by them from a total of 46 countries will attend the ceremony, of which the heads of China, India and Seychelles have already arrived.
