Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has thanked the Maldives for its assistance in overcoming the economic crisis in Sri Lanka.

Ranil expressed his gratitude for Maldives for its continued support to Sri Lanka to overcome the ongoing economic crisis during a meeting with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday.

President Solih thanked Ranil for the support extended by the Government of Sri Lanka to further strengthen the relations between the two countries and noted that a number of agreements between the two countries were completed during this term.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the current situation in Sri Lanka and how the country is slowly recovering from the recent economic crisis. They also discussed the current targets and future policies set by the Sri Lankan government to expand its economy.

Sri Lanka has been declared a bankrupt country this year due to the deteriorating economic situation in the country, which has also been sought by former speaker of parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

Nasheed has held talks with leaders of several Arab countries to seek financial assistance for Sri Lanka, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia, but neither the Government of Sri Lanka nor Nasheed has made it clear that funds have been allocated for the work.

Ranil is in Maldives to attend the oath ceremony of Dr. Muizzu.
