Parliament Speaker Mohamed Aslam has said that he will try to expedite the process of a resolution to take action against Israel.

Aslam said this while addressing a group of protesters outside parliament today demanding the ban on Israeli passports. The resolution Aslam referred to was submitted by MP Saud Hussein condemning the inhuman treatment meted out to the Palestinian people in response to calls for an end to Israel's occupation of Palestinian lands.

Addressing the protesters, Aslam said that he would try to expedite the work of the resolution, adding that only members of parliament can move an emergency motion.

Aslam added that no further matters could be addressed in the parliament after this afternoon due to the President-elect's oath ceremony on Friday but added that he would try to do it as soon as possible.

The Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee has approved a recommendation to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to ban Israelis from entering the Maldives.
