India's Minister of Earth Science Kiren Rijiju will be sent as a representative of the Government of India for the oath ceremony of President-elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the Government of India has said.

The president-elect's office said it had sent invitations to all friendly countries and neighbouring countries to attend Dr. Muizzu's oath ceremony on Friday evening.

Earth Science Minister and Union Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Kiren will be present on behalf of the government at Dr. Muizzu's swearing-in ceremony, India's Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also been invited for Dr. Muizzu's oath ceremony, according to local media reports.

While the current government has maintained close relations with India, the President-elect has said that he will pursue a pro-Maldives foreign policy and will continue to engage with all non-Israeli countries.

State Councilor Shen Yiqin will attend the oath ceremony of the President-elect as a special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
