Magoodhoo Airport has been handed over to The Regional Airports Company (RAC).

In a statement, RAC said on Tuesday that it has been entrusted with the management of the airport being developed at Magoodhoo and with this, it has been entrusted with all the operational powers of the airport.

RAC said the airport will be operational by January if the construction goes according to schedule.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was awarded Magoodhoo Airport project on 19 October 2022, to be completed in 550 days. The project is valued at MVR 231.5 million.

As per the initial plan, a 1,200-meter runway was to be built at the airport but President Solih had the plans revised to build a 1,800-meter runway to accommodate private jets at the airport.

RAC statement said that while the runway expansion work is already underway, the airport's fire building work and passenger terminal structure have also been completed and finishing work has begun.

Work is also underway to develop a parking area and a jet fuel farm where jets can be parked, he said, adding that work is underway to set up a hotel with the airport where the crew arriving on the jets can stay.
