The MDP Parliamentary Group (PG) has passed a motion to submit a no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla.

MDP began collecting the signatures required to move a no-confidence motion against Eva for the second time yesterday. The motion was unanimously decided at the MDP PG meeting held recently.

"We have already received the signatures. We will submit it very soon. We are waiting to get the signatures of some members,"

PG Group Leader Mohamed Aslam said.

The MDP had previously moved a resolution to remove Eva. However, the resolution was withdrawn amid the September presidential election.

While Eva’s no-confidence motion has been re-tabled in Parliament, MDP has also moved a motion to impeach Speaker Mohamed Nasheed. The resolution was not pursued for several days due to Eva’s absence and MDP went to the Supreme Court for a solution.

Meanwhile, the first session held yesterday was chaired by Hassan Afeef. Afeef, however, adjourned the House, saying the motion was moved illegally, and ordered it to be moved again.

A further session was scheduled for 11:30 am yesterday to re-table the resolution. The meeting was chaired by Eva, who said that a decision had been taken on the resolution held yesterday morning and therefore it could not be continued.

The Ethics Committee of Parliament has ruled that Eva and Afeef have violated their privileges. The General Committee meeting held yesterday decided to seek the advice of the AG to determine the next steps to be taken on the resolution.

Attorney General (AG) Ibrahim Riffath also said that askingn to resubmit the resolution was illegal.
