MDP's Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail has criticised Speaker Nasheed's handling of the no-confidence motion against him and called him to contest the vote without delays.

Nasheed's dismissal resolution has not moved forward in the parliament and the matter was placed on the agenda for today's meeting following the Supreme Court's verdict on Thursday.

The first sitting was presided over by MP Hassan Afeef who concluded the session citing that the motion did not meet the criteria. This was followed by Democrats' PG leader's motion on the legitimacy of the no-confidence motion.

Soon after Afeef concluded the first session of parliament, Fayyaz tweeted on X today stating that Afeef's act is cowardly and shameful.

He stated that Afeef's action was worse than the tyranny of former parliament speaker Maseeh.

"It is a dark and shameful day for parliamentary democracy in the country. Nasheed should face the vote," Fayyaz said.
