A batch of Cetrizine Syrup containing dangerous chemicals such as 'Diethylene Glycol' and 'Ethylene Glycol' has been recalled by the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA).
MFDA. issued an alert yesterday, saying that they have been conducting random tests and screening batches of Cetrizine Syrup in the Maldivian market, after a WHO advisory noted that a batch is circulating with Diethylene Glycol and Ethylene Glycol.
Ten samples have been screened from the local market so far this year, and a batch containing the chemicals has been found.
The batch is the B220 batch of 5ml Cetrizine Syrup from Allegro brand manufactured by a Pakistani company.
The MFDA said the tests for diethylene and ethylene glycol are sent to an overseas laboratory.
