Election Commission (EC) has released the details of the new constituencies to be elected to parliament in 2024.

EC released its provisional report on the delimitation of constituencies along with 93 constituencies to be elected in 2024 on Thursday night.

According to the report, nine parliamentary constituencies will be added to the Parliament next year. Due to the changes in parliamentary constituencies, the name of Guraidhoo constituency has been changed to Maafushi constituency.

According to the law, parliamentary seats are allotted on the basis of membership for every 5,000 people, the newly created constituencies are created after the completion of 5,000 people, and the constituency is named after the most populous village in a constituency.

Guraidhoo constituency currently consists of Guraidhoo and Maafushi. The name of the constituency was changed to Maafushi due to the higher population of Maafushi than Guraidhoo.
