President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the price of fish purchases will not be reduced during his second term in office.

The government decided to increase the purchase price of fish to MVR 25 from September 16. The change was made after President Solih held a meeting with a large number of fishermen in the fishing industry on September 15.

Speaking at a campaign rally held in Thinadhoo city on Wednesday night, the President said that during the meeting, the fishermen spoke about the problems faced by the fishermen and urged them to continue making these statements.

"Now, as per the concerns of the day, we have revised the prices of fish. MIFCO is now paying MVR 25 per kg of fish to every fisherman who fishes in different parts of the country. I can assure you that this will continue without any changes or reductions in our next term," he said.

Speaking about the president's promises, President Solih said that the biggest problem faced by the people was the lack of funds for the construction of houses and for this, a housing bank would be set up to provide loans.

"At present, there is a provision in Male' city to get housing loans using pension funds. We will make the same policy available to the people of this city and all parts of the country who can use it to get loans from the bank," he said.

President Solih further stated that the provision of pension funds will enable the all residents to avail housing loans in the same way as the people of Male' city. He said that land would be acquired in the next term for a major international airport and housing project being developed in Thinadhoo.
