The Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL) has resumed paying 50 percent of its employees’ salaries in dollars.

50 percent of MACL employees' salaries were previously paid in dollars. However, due to the dollar scarcity caused by COVID-19, MACL has suspended payment of salaries in dollars.

The company said today that 50 percent of employees' salaries will be paid in dollars again from this month.

The tourist arrivals were completely stopped due to the closure of the border during the pandemic. The number of tourists coming to Maldives has increased with the reopening of the border. The amount of foreign exchange inflows to the state has also increased.

The Finance Ministry said the economy is now ahead of the previous year. Maldives is among the 10 fastest growing economies in the world after the outbreak. There is no difficulty in obtaining foreign exchange for Maldives.
