Detained SL fishermen released

21 out of the 25 Sri Lankan fishermen who were detained in the Maldives, after having been caught fishing illegally in Maldivian waters have been released.

According to Sri Lankan ‘Daily Mirror’, State Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Dilip Wedaarachchi confirmed that the 21 fishermen had returned to Sri Lanka on Thursday night after leaving the Maldives on SriLankan Airlines flight UL104.

The Maldivian government is yet to confirm the news.

The four vessels were brought to Kulhudhuffushi, after being caught 103 nautical miles out of the Maldives.
