Youth Ministry has been allotted a plot of land from Thilafushi to construct a racing track.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Urbanco by Managing Director Ahmed Athif while Deputy Minister Azmoon Ahmed signed on behalf of the Ministry of Youth. The ceremony was also attended by Racing Association President Mohamed Shamih.
According to Urbanco, 10 hectares of land has been given for the construction of the racing track from Thilafushi Phase II.
Speaking at the ceremony, Athif said that the construction of a racing track was not a promise made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during the presidential election and Urbanco has been in talks with the Racing Association and the Youth Ministry to build such a track.
He added that the construction of a racing track will provide opportunities for the country to participate in world-class racing.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shamih said that the racing track will have different disciplines of motor sports instead of just racing, and thanked Urbanco for allotting land for those who want to race.
"The policy of the present government is to ensure that everyone has access to sports without leaving out any particular sport," Azmoon said, adding that the government is providing all possible avenues to ensure that maldivians get a chance in international sports.
