Tourism Ministry has revealed the tourism sector saw a 22% growth during the month of March.

Speaking during a press conference held at the Ministry, Tourism Minister Ali Waheed revealed that the tourism sector grew by 6.5% in January 2019, and added that during the month of March, the growth rate was at 22%. This is a 15% growth when compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to statistics, so far tourist arrivals to the Maldives stands at 482,978. Minister Waheed noted that the President’s target for tourist arrivals was 1.5 million, and stressed that according to calculations, this goal would be easily reachable.

The Minister also revealed that the Chinese and Indian market had seen significant growths as well. China is currently the top market for tourist arrivals, while the markets from Italy, Germany and India has also seen a growth.

Minister Waheed also noted that he believes it was indeed possible to make the Maldives as the top tourist destination in the world.
