Tourism Minister Ali Waheed has revealed that the current administration has granted licenses for 10 new resorts and 40 new guest houses.

Speaking at a press conference held on Tuesday at the Ministry, Minster Waheed noted that the promotion of tourist activities are being given extra attention by the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

As such, licenses have now been granted for 10 new resorts and 40 new guest houses. This brings the total number of resorts to 141 and total number of guest houses to 545. In terms of tourist bed count, the country has gained a significant amount as well, according to the Minister.

He noted that resorts have seen an increase of 1,410 tourist beds and guest houses have seen an increase of 640 tourist beds. This also brings the total tourist beds in guest houses to 8,944.

Minister Waheed also revealed that there were new diving centers being registered across the country. The addition of 12 new diving centers have now brought the total to 221 diving centers. In addition to this, there are 22 new travel agencies bringing the total to 335 travel agencies.

He noted that 30 new resorts are set to open in the current year, across the Maldives.
