Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim, MNP president Mohamed Nazim, and The Democrats have agreed to field one candidate from the opposition at the 2023 Presidential Election, if both MRM and PPM agree.
Speaking to reporters after the three met at Jumhooree Party's Kunooz today, Qasim said they discussed whether there was a formula to work together for the presidential election by fielding a single candidate.
"We have been able to agree to do so in principle. If PPM and MRM also agree to field a single candidate, then senior leaders of all three parties have agreed to go that way," he said.
Qasim said the next dialogue was with PPM and MRM. He said he was ready to step back from candidacy if the parties are able to agree to field a single candidate.
Nasheed said he was hopeful that he would be able to go to the polls together with a single candidate by talking to the parties. He said he was not interested in running for president as The Democrats' presidential candidate.
