President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that work on five more airports will begin before the end of his current term.
Speaking at a meeting held at Hoarafushi island today as part of his presidential campaign, the President said that Horafushi Airport is the first airport opened by the current government, and work on four more airports is underway across the country.
He said work on five more airports would begin by the end of this term.
Noting that the Maldives will not develop by implementing development projects based on the population, the President said that if development projects are not carried out with a large plan, then a part of the population will be left out.
He said that one should connect with each other and get the services that are not available in the island from the other islands.
He said that we are now able to feel that the development being brought by the present government is being accepted by the people.
