Jumhooree Party (JP) leader and Maamigili MP Qasim Ibrahim has expressed hope that he will be able to work together with Maldives National Party (MNP) President Mohamed Nazim.

MNP and Jumhooree Party met at Sun Island Resort today at the invitation of Qasim.

Jumhooree Party and MNP have also decided to contest the upcoming elections. Qasim is contesting as JP's presidential candidate, while Nazim is MNP's presidential candidate.

In a video tweeted by Jumhooree Party today, he said the two parties had discussed working together in the presidential elections and the parliament, and it was a very promising discussion.

"We both talked about how we can work together in the presidential election and in this upcoming Parliament. The conversation that followed gave us hope," he said.

MNP Vice President and Villimale' MP Ahmed Usham said that discussions showed that a formula can be worked out with the Jumhooree Party in the presidential election.

MNP President Nazim and Vice President Abdulla Riyaz have held key positions in JP in the past. Qasim, however, criticized them for quitting JP and forming MNP.
