The Election Commission (EC) has announced that six seats will be added to the 20th Session of the Maldives Parliament when members are elected next year.

EC Vice-President Ismail Habeeb said that the 794th meeting of the Commission held today approved changes to electoral districts in accordance with Article 8 of the Act of Determination of Electoral Districts of the Parliament on Tuesday.

He added that there will be an increase of six seats in the 2024 parliament.

The increase in seats in Parliament are as follows:

- 2 seats for Male' City

- 1 seat for Addu City

- 1 seat for Baa Atoll constituency

- 1 seat for Male' Atoll

- 1 seat for Gaafu Alif atoll constituency

Habib said the commission would soon release details of the registered population in each administrative constituency.

The current Parliament has 87 members. With this, the number of members in the 20th Parliament to be elected next year will go up to 93.
