Voting for the Parliamentary Elections have come to a close across Maldives.

Voting began at 8:00am, and was initially scheduled to close at 4:00pm. However, the Elections Commission later decided to extend the timing by two hours, and so brought the closing time to 6:00pm.

According to the latest statistics timed around 5:30 by the Elections Commission, a total of 200,464 people had voted out of an eligible 264,442 eligible voters. This includes 100,673 males and 99,791 females.

With this, the voter turnout for this election has risen up to 75.81% meaning 24.19% of eligible voters remained. This is about 63,978 votes.

Overall election procedures went smoothly, with the public praising the decreased waiting time compared to the Presidential Election held last September.
