President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that 50 more housing units will be built in Meemu Kolhufushi, in addition to re-developing the roads to better standards.
Speaking at a meeting held in Kolhufushi Island to campaign for the upcoming presidential election in September, the President said that the construction of eight classrooms and multi-purpose halls for the school and the first phase of the water and sanitation project and the shore protection project has been completed.
He highlighted that during a second term, further works will be conducted in these projects.
The President also promised to add 50 more housing units to the ongoing 100 housing projects in Kolhufushi and to make the island's roads better.
The President said that while the change in life after the tsunami has affected the fisheries in Kolhufushi, they should be able to find employment closer to the island. To fulfill this, he said three islands have been allotted as one island in the previous term to build a resort near Kolhufushi, but none of them have begun construction.
"We will carry out a project to develop a resort near the island as per the wishes of the people of the island," he said.
